Orhaniye Village of today is built on the slopes of the hill where there are ruins. The remains of the city walls can be seen in a wide area in the forest. There are ruins of a castle on a small island in Orhaniye Bay.
Euthenna
The remains surviving from the small Rhodes city of Euthenna up to date are on the Altınsivrisi Hill, which is approximately in 2 km south-east of Karacasöğüt Village. As one comes closer to the hill; the city necropolis, various remains of walls a little above and, rock-cut tombs and cisterns are seen.
Amnistos
There is another ancient city near Karacasöğüt. Ruins of the ancient Amnistos city are located on a headland near the village. The old harbor by the sea and the city walls survived from the city.
Detailed information is available about just a few of these cities, or demes to call more accurately. Therefore, we will cover five of the Karian cities in present Marmaris geography; Physkos, Amos, Hydas, Kıran Lake Sanctuary, Loryma and Castabus ancient settlements. The demes which cannot be detailed here have undoubtedly been significant parts and actors of the history. However, although there is a strong infrastructure of experts in Turkey, we as non-experts suffer from the shortage of sources as a result of time, cost and patience-requiring nature of archaeological excavations coupled with bureaucratic obstacles to be overcome.
If we manage to attract attention with our cultural publication, potential archaeological research to be done in the future will certainly enrich our knowledge.
